Welcome to Boston Children’s Hospital! While you begin your onboarding and build your new practice at BCH, we’ve provided a checklist with a few things for you to do to help our digital marketing team prepare your online presence and reputation.

With your help, we’ll work to make sure your information is accurate internally and externally to our website. This includes satellite locations where you see/treat patients, your affiliated departments and clinics, and contact information.

National Plan & Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) logo
1) Update personal NPI database upon start date (clinician-based and practicing researchers)

https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov

Your NPI information is important for several reasons. It is publicly accessible and the information is very often used by families and referring providers for billing purposes. It is crucial to make sure the information on your NPI profile reflects Boston Children’s Hospital.

  • Access to government owned websites, such as the NPI Database, are exclusive only to providers/holder of the NPI number. Only the provider can access this website
  • Provider should avoid including personal phone numbers and home address. Address listed should be “300 Longwood Avenue” and phone number should be either to their respective department or “617-355-6000.” Any other address or phone number listed is to the discretion of the provider.

2) Register and update Doximity

https://www.doximity.com

Doximity is a HIPAA-compliant “social media” platform, often compared to the likes of LinkedIn. Providers can use the platform to connect, network and send HIPAA-safe messages to colleagues through the platform asking for advice, etc.

  • Access to Doximity is exclusive only to the provider, as the website asks security questions only the provider will know, such as “which address looks familiar,” etc.
  • Eligible, board-certified providers registered on Doximity will be able to complete the annual US News Survey

3) Submit profile request:

There are two (2) types of profiles available to our full-time faculty: Clinical and Research. Your profile on the Boston Children’s Hospital website is essential to your BCH reputation. It is how families find you and learn about your specialties and clinical interests. Your profile will also show up in our Find-A-Doctor and Find-A-Research directories, as well as external search engines.

4) Schedule for a brand compliant headshot:

Headshots are available to all full-time clinicians. Our headshots are taken by our in-house photographer at his on-campus studio located down the street at 1 Autumn Street.

Headshots can be scheduled via the following:

  1. https://digitalhub.childrenshospital.org/content-updates/headshot-request
  2. Clinicians should also speak with their department’s designated service line manager. Our photographer has opened additional time slots through them not accessible in the online calendar

5) Updating publications list on BCH profile

https://connects.catalyst.harvard.edu/profiles/search/people

  • All publications displayed on BCH profiles are pulled from Harvard Catalyst (HC), via PubMed.
  • It is the clinician’s responsibility to update their publication list on the HC website, which will then reflect on their BCH profile. Digital marketing unfortunately does not have access to this website.
